The Family House | Chicago, IL

Last week I had the chance to check out a new Burmese/Malaysian restaurant in West Rodgers Park. The Family House offers a homely atmosphere with food that warms the body and the soul. The owner and his crew create authentic dishes for people to enjoy. I would love to go back again! The full article link is here.

Fig Galette

With fig season coming to an end I wanted to bake something using them. Figs are so delicious and beautiful~ I don’t know if I enjoy baking because I get to eat the food or because I get to take photos of it. Maybe both. I also love making collages like these and playing around with text and fonts. Here’s the recipe I used. I substituted sugar with coconut sugar and it tasted fine. I also didn’t use jam to cut down on sugar… so it’s just figs. The pie crust was really good though and you can pretty much fill it with any fruit!!

A few minutes walk away from Gasworks Parks in Fremont you’ll find this beautifully decorated restaurant, The Whale Wins. The staff’s excellent service and quality of food is also part of the memorable experience. I actually came across this place by chance as I was around the area to go visit Gasworks Parks. I instantly fell in love with the decor and decided to dine here with friends. They also have happy hour, which is called Whale Call, so do check those hours!
